According to a PR Newswire release, Rob McCourt, Firelands Scientific's Vice President of Commercial, expressed pride in the expansion, emphasizing affordable access to quality medicine for Ohio's patients.

Both The Landing and Firelands Scientific advocate for Issue 2, a ballot initiative to legalize adult-use cannabis in Ohio.

The release noted that Jeff McCourt, CEO of Firelands Scientific, highlighted the potential benefits of the measure, emphasizing the importance of safe, legal, and affordable cannabis access to deter illegal purchases.

He also pointed out that Ohio stands to gain economically from cannabis legalization, particularly given the competitive cannabis market in neighboring Michigan.

According to a NORML report, recent statewide polling data released by Baldwin Wallace University indicates robust support for Issue 2 among Ohio's voters.

The poll shows 57% of registered voters back the measure, with particular support among urban, rural, and suburban demographics.

The report noted that Dr. Tom Sutton of Baldwin Wallace University and NORML's Deputy Director Paul Armentano concur that the measure will likely pass based on historical precedents and current trends.

Issue 2 proposes legalizing possession of up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana or 15 grams of marijuana extract for adults. Additionally, it allows home cultivation of up to 12 plants in residences with at least two adults.

Per the report, taxing retail cannabis products at 10% could generate significant revenue for the state, with projections ranging from $276.2 million to $403.6 million annually by the fifth year.

However, some GOP members have expressed reservations, with the Ohio Senate recently passing a resolution urging voters to reject Issue 2 based on claims challenged by scientific research.

The report noted that Ohio's Senate Leader, Republican Matt Huffman, hinted at potential amendments to the measure if voters approve it this November.

Ohioans are set to vote on November 7, with early voting underway.

What We Think

The Landing Dispensary's expansion in Cincinnati, coupled with the extensive support for Issue 2, reflects Ohio's potential shift towards cannabis legalization.

If passed, the initiative promises economic gains and addresses concerns about illegal and unsafe cannabis purchases.

The outcome could position Ohio as a forerunner in the evolving cannabis industry, fostering growth and benefiting its citizens.
