According to a news report, the event aimed to bring together cannabis enthusiasts and experts to exchange opinions and knowledge, helping set a standard for Thailand's emerging cannabis industry.
International judges were invited to evaluate various cannabis strains based on appearance, THC levels, terpenes, flavor, and genetic profiles. In 2022, Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to decriminalize cannabis, but rushed regulations were issued shortly after to curb unchecked use.
The country currently lacks an umbrella law to regulate cannabis use, as a draft bill failed to pass before the upcoming May 14 election.The Phuket Cannabis Association, recently formed to advocate for the industry, now includes over 1,000 licensed dispensaries on the island.
Poonwarit Wangpatravanich, the group's president, said in the report that he hoped laws regulating cannabis use will be expedited after the election, potentially boosting Thailand's GDP through tourism.
