Richmond, CA--The Craneway Pavilion in Richmond is set to host the 19th Annual Emerald Cup Awards on Saturday, May 13. Hailed as the "Academy Awards of Cannabis" by Rolling Stone Magazine, the event marks the competition's first appearance in the Bay Area. Over 150 awards will be presented to the finest cannabis products and experiences throughout California.

The Emerald Cup features a private guest list, including some of the state's most prominent farms, brands, and businesspeople, according to event organizers. In March, over 100 expert judges received kits containing over 700 premium entries spanning over four dozen unique categories, covering flower, concentrates, edibles, cartridges, topicals, tinctures, and alternative cannabinoids.

According to The Emerald Cup Awards, awards will also be given for the most innovative product, best dispensaries in Northern, Central, and Southern California, and the Willie Nelson Award, a lifetime achievement accolade for cannabis. A photo competition will be held alongside the other contests.

Originally started as a small competition by founder Tim Blake and his grower friends before cannabis legalization, the Emerald Cup has since evolved into "the state's premier cannabis event," as described by San Diego Magazine.
