These products stem from the Moncton-grown whole flower and have been introduced under Organigram’s established SHRED brand and the freshly revamped Trailblazer brands.
According to a Business Wire release, by leveraging its strategic alliance with Phylos Bioscience, a reputed US entity specializing in cannabis genetics, Organigram seeks to position itself at the forefront of innovation.
This collaboration has facilitated THCV's in-house cultivation and extraction at the high-tech Moncton facility. As a result, Organigram is currently presumed to be the solitary Canadian licensed producer (LP) to offer this.
Understanding the THCV Appeal
The release noted that THCV, a distinctive and uncommon cannabinoid, is noted for its potential appetite-suppressing qualities.
Unlike THC, THCV is considered non-psychoactive and can counter some of the characteristics linked to THC.
For instance, its ability to counteract the hunger pangs triggered by THC has garnered it the epithet “Diet Weed.” Furthermore, its alleged ‘super sativa’ wellness, focus, and energy-enhancing impacts are also gaining traction.
Organigram’s partnership with Phylos provides exclusive Canadian access to high-THCV cultivars such as Get S**t Done and Joyride, which boast THCV concentrations that eclipse other market offerings.
“At Organigram, our commitment to scientific excellence, rigorous research, and consumer-driven innovation sets us apart in the industry,” says Borna Zlamalik, Senior Vice President of Innovation and R&D at Organigram, per the release.
“We are currently the only licensed Canadian cannabis company to be cultivating and extracting from THCV flower, meaning that our products are made from the entire cannabis flower, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other compounds," he added.
"This is a testament to our extraordinary R&D, exceptional talent, and the incredible capabilities we have in-house."
Featured THCV Products :
- SHRED’ems Guava Lime Go–Time: A combination of guava and lime promises a cannabinoid encounter with an initial 1:1 THC:THCV ratio.
- Trailblazer Zen Garden Grapefruit: This gummy leads the market in THCV content, blending grapefruit flavor with a 1:2 THC:THCV ratio.
In the release, Megan McCrae, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, underlined Organigram's aim to redefine cannabis experiences for consumers.
Facing Challenges Head-on
According to a MJ Biz Daily report, although Organigram reported a CA$213.5M loss in its third quarter, mainly attributed to THC inflation, the company remains resilient.
CEO Beena Goldenberg acknowledged the challenges, citing the surge in cannabis flowers with falsely elevated THC content.
Nevertheless, Goldenberg is optimistic and believes in addressing these challenges by enhancing cannabis potency genuinely and through proper THC testing.
The report noted that despite facing setbacks, including a 14% revenue decline compared to the previous year's quarter, Organigram remains focused on growth.
As of May 31, they reported cash assets amounting to CA$75 million, ensuring ample liquidity for upcoming ventures.
